Social Media Influencer Accused of Assault in Jakarta
indonesian social media personality Chandrika Chika is facing assault allegations following an incident that resulted in injuries to another individual, identified only as YB. The case has been reported to the South Jakarta Metro Police, sparking significant attention in the region.
Attorneys representing YB, Faizal Reza siagian and Andi Bashar, provided details about their client’s condition following the alleged assault. ”The left shoulder (bone) (slid),” siagian stated during a press briefing in East Jakarta on December 20,2024.
While the lawyers clarified that there was no reported physical beating, they explained that the injury stemmed from the impact of YB being grabbed and later falling. “as far as I know, there was no beating. (YB was said to be) grabbed, fell. Maybe when he fell the impact was strong,” Bashar explained, adding that further details would be provided by YB at a later time.
according to Bashar, there was no prior conflict between YB and Chika before the incident. “(YB) wanted to get into the car suddenly something like that happened, there was no conflict,” he stated. YB underwent a three-hour police interview, answering 27 questions while wearing hand restraints, a precaution according to Bashar to prevent excessive movement during questioning.
The incident has left YB with a significant left shoulder injury, hindering his ability to perform daily activities. “At that time I suggested a massage, but he dared to have a massage, but if he didn’t massage it, it meant he had to have surgery if he wanted to recover as before,” Bashar concluded, highlighting the severity of the injury and the potential need for surgery.
The case underscores the potential legal ramifications for individuals, even prominent social media figures, involved in physical altercations. The ongoing inquiry by the South Jakarta Metro Police will determine the next steps in the legal process and the extent of Chika’s potential culpability.
This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of responsible behavior, notably for public figures with a large online following. The outcome of this case will be closely watched by many in Indonesia and beyond.

Joining us to unpack the implications of this case is Dr. Adishakti Widarta, a lecturer in Media Studies at the University of Indonesia, specializing in social media and its impact on society.
Dr. Widarta, thanks for joining us.
Dr.Adishakti Widarta: My pleasure. It’s important to discuss these topics publicly.
Senior Editor: Absolutely. So, for our audience who may not be familiar, could you briefly sum up the situation with this social media influencer, Chandrika Chika?
Dr.Widarta: Certainly. Chandrika chika is a prominent figure on Indonesian social media platforms. Recently, she’s been accused of assaulting another individual, identified only as YB. The alleged incident resulted in a serious shoulder injury for YB, and the case is now under inquiry by the South Jakarta Metro Police.
Senior Editor: This case has sparked significant online debate. What are some of the key issues that are emerging from this situation?
Dr. Widarta: This incident raises several crucial points. Firstly,it highlights the accountability of social media influencers. They often have large followings and can wield considerable influence, so their actions carry weight. When incidents like this occur, it challenges the perception that online fame somehow shields individuals from legal consequences.
senior Editor: Right. It truly seems there’s a growing expectation that public figures, even those who exist primarily in the digital sphere, need to be held to the same standards as everyone else.
Dr. Widarta:
Exactly. Secondly, this case prompts a discussion about the culture surrounding social media fame in Indonesia. Sometimes, the pressure to maintain a certain image or engage in sensational content can lead to questionable decisions. We need to examine if this constant pursuit of online validation is contributing to a climate where such incidents are more likely to occur.
Senior Editor: This isn’t just about Chika. There’s a much broader conversation about the responsibilities that come with influence, whether it’s online or offline.
Dr. Widarta: Absolutely. This incident provides a stark reminder that behind the curated images and carefully crafted narratives, these are real people with the capacity to cause harm, and they must be held responsible for their actions.
Senior Editor:** Thank you so much for sharing your insights, Dr.Widarta. This is clearly a story that will continue to unfold, and we’ll be sure to follow developments closely.
