The chances that José Mourinho could get his dream midfielder are increasing. Tottenham Hotspur are said to have given up on extending the contract of Giovani Lo Celso, who is instead set to leave this summer.

While there are increasing signs that a transfer of Sofyan Amrabat from AC Florence could be possible, Head coach José Mourinho is said to have set his sights on another player. The Portuguese is said to want to lure his former protégé Giovani Lo Celso to Istanbul. In fact, the chances of a transfer have just increased considerably.
Jose Mourinho to sign Giovani Lo Celso for Tottenham
In his search for a new central midfielder, José Mourinho is said to have told the Fenerbahçe management that he would primarily have Giovani Lo Celso from Tottenham Hotspur in his team. The Argentinian, who once moved from Betis Sevilla to Spurs for a total package of 48 million euros, was previously a protégé of the current Fenerbahçe coach and both are said to have a high opinion of each other.
Contract extension at Tottenham failed
It now seems very likely that Lo Celso could leave the north Londoners this summer. According to a report by “The Express”, negotiations regarding a possible contract extension for the Argentine at Tottenham have failed and the club wants to sell the player in this transfer window in order to at least earn some money from the number eight, whose contract expires in the summer of 2025.
Giovani Lo Celso apparently below market value
This now means that Giovani Lo Celso could apparently be signed on favorable terms. Due to recurring fluctuations in performance and various injury interruptions, the 28-year-old was not able to get as much playing time as hoped, either at Tottenham or at Villarreal, where he was loaned out in the meantime. It is therefore currently assumed that Giovani Lo Celso would be available for a transfer fee of around 12 million euros plus small bonuses. This would mean that the Argentine international, who recently won the Copa America alongside Lionel Messi, would be available below market value. According to “Transfermarkt”, this is currently valued at 16 million euros.
