Chancellor of Education in NYC faces budget cut

The chancellor of Education, David Banks, appeared before the Council on the budget stipulated for his Department.

This after Mayor Adams suggested cutting funding to schools that have lost students.

The amount of funding is typically proportional to the number of students, but in the last two years, the administration of former Mayor de Blasio did not consider this formula.

Banks indicated that the current budget is insufficient. He also said that school desertion is significant and that in the last five years 120,000 families have left the school system.

There are still a number of additional steps to go before the municipal budget is finalized in June.
