The Chamss Arouise architecture studio presented this Friday, February 8, 2024, a guide plan for the Rives du Gave district in order to urbanize this 35-hectare site partially covered with industrial wasteland between Pau station, the center of Bizanos and the edges from Gaves to Gelos. This plan sets out the main axes of urban and landscaping developments but also a global architectural coherence for all the constructions that will emerge from the ground within this perimeter. The agglomeration estimates that it will take 25 years to develop the whole of this new district, at a cost to the community of 60 million euros.

Among the important developments, the plan provides for the extension of the BRT, that is to say from the Fébus line to Place Gambetta de Bizanos, a new pedestrian bridge will have to be launched over the Gave at the level of the whitewater stadium to reach the Gelos stud farm. A wide esplanade along the Heid canal will offer a perspective on the Gave and the Pyrenees with lots of greenery. The planting of 2,250 trees is planned as well as the deartificialization of 8 and a half hectares compared to current wastelands. The industrial heritage must also be preserved with the rehabilitation of certain halls, converted into open public spaces.
A 120-page specifications book was drawn up to guarantee the architectural coherence of the whole inspired in particular by the slopes of the roofs of Béarnaise houses (les clouques or glousses) and Pyrenean peaks. The community wants to obtain project management to ensure that the spirit of the project is respected, but it will first need to obtain control of the land particularly on the Dehousse wasteland where an agreement on soil decontamination is being sought. There remains the question of the flooding of the land which will require the exclusion of certain activities from this district (crèches, schools) and the construction of upper-floor parking for cars since the basement cannot be dug due to their industrial pollution.
