Champollion school set to open “normally” at start of school year despite urban violence

Affected during the urban violence in July, the Champollion school goes “normally” at the start of the school year. The City of Dijon has made it a “priority objective”.

On Saturday July 1, the Champollion elementary school was set on fire during the urban violence, after the death of young Nahel in Nanterre. The students had not then returned to their establishment and had been welcomed in a leisure center.

A temporary solution to allow children to finish the school year. But will the school open its doors at the start of the school year? According to the city of Dijon, the establishment may “Normally” welcome its students in September.

“The establishment is still under construction, but the priority objective is to return to the site.” There is currently no question of distributing the children to other schools in the area.

A pre-start visit is also planned in the coming weeks to present the school, when the work is completed. Note that only part of the building was affected by the fire. One room was badly damaged.

As a reminder, another school in Burgundy was burned down during the riots. This is the Jean-Zay kindergarten in Mâcon (Saône-et-Loire). It will remain closed at the start of the school year, because the expertise and work in the building have revealed traces of asbestos.

The students will therefore be distributed to other schools in the city. At this time, it is impossible to say when the school will be able to welcome students again.
