Champions Milan, the table is crying: with Porto to reopen the games

With Liverpool, and especially with Atletico, the Rossoneri have shown that they can aspire to the next round: the double challenge with the Portuguese, who have been paved by the Reds, will be decisive

Sometimes self-esteem does not bring points, but it is an essential baggage to make the journey more and more comfortable. This was one of those times: the ranking is still crying pinned to number zero, but the feeling is that Milan are traveling faster than expected to return to being a protagonist in Europe. These are only the first steps after seven years of absence, but Liverpool and Atletico Madrid have been a comfortable crescendo.

After all, even a small point would have been useful to move the ranking and send a signal to the others in the group. So, on the other hand, for now Milan remains unfinished because the signals have already sent them to two thirds of the group, but the last solitary place makes the climb difficult. Difficult, but not impossible. Everything will pass from the double challenge with Porto – 19 October away, 3 November at San Siro -, and the calendar offers a great opportunity: the Portuguese in fact, in addition to being in front of only one length, have come out of the clash with Liverpool with the bodywork in pieces. That is in a very different way compared to the performance of Milan. Against the Reds, Conceiçao’s men have put together a veritable gallery of defensive horrors, starting with the unfortunate performance of goalkeeper Diogo Costa.

Then, for heaven’s sake, black evenings can happen, but the home shipwreck at the Dragao makes the thought of being able to break it down at least legitimate. Provided of course that the Rossoneri repeat the three points at the Meazza. At that point, at 6, the games would be reopened, with the subsequent trip to Madrid becoming decisive. Obviously it is too early to go too far into the calculations, and in some ways misleading because the variables involved are too many. But starting from the awareness that, despite the weight of the standings, Milan have the potential and self-esteem sufficient to fight again, is a treasure not to be underestimated.
