On Tuesday, November 10, in the second round match of the Champions League Group G “VEF Riga”, the Greek team “Peristeri” was beaten away – 84:81 (15:18, 39:35, 62:63), winning the first victory. In the last game of the first round, Rigans will play with Rytas on December 8 in Vilnius.
The militant mood of the Rigans was best described by the balance of the first half in the fight for the rebounds – 22:10 (including at the “Peristeri” basket 10: 9). The great determination at the beginning of the match, however, suppresses cold blood and accuracy, also manifested in inaccurate throws and mistakes. “Peristeri” started more convincingly (8:16), however, “VEF Rīga” almost reached the hosts by the end of the quarter, and in the continuation the initiative was mostly in the hands of guests.
The plot of the game was rich in various twists and turns. From 35:24 to 35:35, from 48:39 to 52:53, from 59:55 to 65:71. The last minute started with a score of 79:79, but the decisive words were Kails Allmans (master pass) and Kristers Zoriks (accurate free throws).
Throughout the game, both teams attacked well from a distance (12/28 – 11/24), but the Rigans were more effective in shots from the two-point zone (22/35 – 18/39). “VEF Rīga” convincingly won the fight against the baskets (41-24), although he made mistakes too often (16-9).
“VEF Rīga” team Kristers Zoriks scored 20 points, won 7 balls and made 3 assists, Kails Allmans 16 (9 assists), Aišia Pineiro 13 (6 atl.), Michael Kaizers 11 (7 atl.), Mārcis Vītols 8, Artis Ate 8, Aleksandrs Madsens 5, Verners Kohs 3. Aigars Šķēle, who has just recovered from the disease, made 2 assists in 5 minutes.
“Peristeri” team Stephen Gray, Tri McLean and former Vefiet Abdul Gaddy scored 15 points, Marvin Jones 14 points.
