Borussia won the first game in Dortmund thanks to Karim Adeyemi’s goal. This player was absent from Stamford Bridge on Tuesday. Coach Edin Terzic could not use the services of Gregor Kobel either. Chelsea also had problems, as Thiago Silva suffered an injury in the last league game.

The hosts started very aggressively and ambitiously, but once again they lacked effectiveness. Borussia had problems at the beginning, but thanks to Marco Reus they could take the lead. Kepa Arrizabalaga, however, had a great free-kick from the German.
Chelsea was chaotic, but getting better by the minute. First, Kai Havertz hit the post, then the same player scored, but the referee disallowed the goal, because a moment earlier Raheem Sterling was offside. At the end of the first half, however, it was the Englishman who became the hero. Although he was lucky, his shot stopped only in the goal. The Blues were leading 1-0.
And after the break, they started to attack again. They were rewarded very quickly. After Ben Chilwell’s cross, Marius Wolf deflected the ball with his hand in his own penalty area. The referee, after analyzing the VAR, awarded the hosts eleven. Havertz approached the ball and … hit the post. Moments later, however, he had a chance to replay, as the other players ran into the penalty area too quickly. On the second attempt, the German hit better and could have enjoyed the goal.
Borussia fought until the last seconds, but was unable to hit the net. Chelsea made a comeback and will play in the quarter-finals of the Champions League.
