Champions League | Real Madrid versus Liverpool: reunion without a leading actor

The bad boy from back then is missing. The supporters of Liverpool FC will probably never forget what Sergio Ramos did to them on the evening of May 26, 2018 in Kiev: First he almost tore off Mohamed Salah’s right arm, after half an hour the Egyptian had to leave the field. Then Real Madrid captain Loris Karius missed an elbow check – the goalkeeper was so impaired that he made two bad mistakes. Liverpool lost the final of the Champions League 1: 3 (0: 0).-

“It was a tough night for us,” remembers Jürgen Klopp, who then lost his sixth consecutive final. On Tuesday in Madrid (9 p.m. in the live ticker at Eurosport.de) there is now the opportunity to take revenge – but a lot will be different: Malefactor Ramos is injured; Unlucky Karius, who favored the 0: 1 and 1: 3 goals almost three years ago, is now a supporting actor at Union Berlin; and Gareth Bale, the match winner with his 2-1 and 3-1 goals, soon fell out of favor and now plays for Tottenham Hotspur.

“What happens now won’t change the result in Kiev,” says Salah, too – and yet the goalscorer is moved by the memory of what happened in the final. Revenge? “Let’s just say that I have a special motivation to win the game and advance to the semi-finals.”
