The 17-year-old fought for the ball until the end. He has a cut cheek and 10 stitches
The match in Belgrade was full of goals, but also in fierce clashes. Pau Cubarsi took part in one of them. The 17-year-old Barcelona defender leaned down to head the ball while his opponent stretched his leg towards the ball.
The defender was hit in the cheek by a cork and did not get up from the pitch for a long time. His teammates immediately asked for medical help. After a while, it turned out that Cubarsi would not be able to continue the game and in the 67th minute he was replaced by Sergi Dominguez.
According to post-match reports, the 17-year-old had a cut cheek and 10 stitches. His appearance in Sunday’s match against Real Sociedad is questionable.
Rampant Barcelona at the top of the Champions League
After four rounds, Barcelona has collected 9 points, which translates into sixth place in the table.
On Tuesday, Liverpool became the independent leader of the table, beating Bayer Leverkusen 4-0 at home and winning for the fourth time in a row.
From this season, the Champions League will be held in a new format, with a league phase instead of a group phase. Participants are classified in one common table. Each will play a total of eight matches against eight different opponents (four home and four away). The teams that take places 1-8 will qualify directly for the 1/8 finals, and those from places 9-24 will fight to advance to this round in the play-offs. The remaining clubs will be eliminated.
