Liverpool took the big Champions League 5th derby from Real Madrid 2-0 in a night that had a strong Greek flavor as Pavlidis scored for Benfica, Lykogiannis provided an assist for Bologna’s first goal of the competition and Jolis performed very well with Brugge in Glasgow.
At Anfield, in the big derby of the evening McAllister put Liverpool ahead and Mbappe missed a penalty to equalize (saved by Kelleher) for Real. A little later it was Salah’s turn to miss a penalty for 2-0 (out) but in the 76th minute Hakpo ended the match for good with the “Reds” making it “5 on 5” and Real falling to… 24th place , three games before the finale!
A few kilometers further south in Birmingham, Aston Villa and Juventus were held to a 0-0 draw. In Monaco, Pavlidis’ goal helped Benfica, who, although losing 2-1 until the 86th minute, defeated the Monegasques, who were playing with 10 players, 3-2…
Shocking turnaround from Eindhoven in Holland where they were 2-0 down against Shakhtar but when the Ukrainians were down to 10 men for 20 minutes, the home side pulled off an incredible comeback from 87′ to 95′ to win 3-2. First win for Red Star and first points in the tournament and in an emphatic way as they crushed Stuttgart 5-1 at the “Maracana”. First points with the first win for Sturm Graz (1-0 Girona).
