Champions League: Jagiellonia lost at home to Bodo/Glimt

Good form since the beginning of the season

The team led by coach Adrian Siemienic began their adventure with European cups by eliminating the Lithuanian FK Panevėžys in the second round of qualifications after victories 4:0 and 3:1. The Białystok team also confirmed their excellent preparation for the season in the PKO BP Ekstraklasa, winning a full set of points in the first three rounds.

However, it was Bodo/Glimt, who play in the cups every season, who entered the competition as favourites. The Norwegian champions are in the middle of the league season and in the second round of the CL qualifications they saw off RFS Riga in impressive style.

– You can see the experience in them. You can feel the quality of this team, you can see the desire to dominate in matches – said the Jagiellonia coach about the rival during a press conference.

Jagiellonia – Bodo/Glimt: course of the match

The coach of the “Pride of Podlasie” was not mistaken. The guests tried to take the initiative from the first minutes. They held the ball longer and posed a greater threat to the goal of the Polish champions, who were focused on counterattacking. However, both teams were not impressive in terms of effectiveness and went into the break with a goalless draw.

The second half of the match also started better for the Norwegian team. Right after the restart, Kasper Hoegh came close to opening the score. What didn’t work in the 46th minute, worked twelve minutes later. After a cross into the penalty area, Adrian Dieguez intervened so badly that he put the ball into his own net.

A few moments later, the guests increased the score to 2:0, but the referee disallowed the goal, calling a foul on Michal Sack by Sondre Fet. Jagiellonia was unable to respond to the good play of their rivals and ended their home match with a defeat, which, however, does not eliminate their chances of advancing to the next round.

Jagiellonia Białystok in the Champions League: what next?

In the return match scheduled for Tuesday, August 13, the Polish champions must play more effectively and beat their opponents on their home turf. The winner of this two-game series will face Crvena Zvezda Belgrade.

However, if the Białystok team fails to eliminate Bodo/Glimt, they will not be finished with their participation in European competitions. They have already secured participation in the group stage of the Conference League. They will also still have a chance to play in the Europa League. In the decisive phase of the eliminations of this competition, they will face Panathinaikos Athens or Ajax Amsterdam.
