The Champions Cup, the former European Cup, is now accompanied by a company which has put its mark as the “naming” of the competition.
Its official name is now “Investec Champions Cup”. The 2023/2024 edition of the old European Cup, which we can hardly continue to call this way today since the integration of South African franchises, is the first to benefit from the support of the Investec group. And this, for the next 5 seasons, according to the contract signed between the company and the EPCR.
What is Investec?
It is a private group, whose field of activity is banking and wealth management. The company offers many services related to financing in the broad sense of the term. Its scope is mainly Europe, Southern Africa and Asia-Pacific.
It is a group of English and South African nationality. Its head office is also located in Sandton, near Johannesburg.

Why sponsor the Champions Cup?
Investec has been investing in sport for a long time. Cricket, women’s hockey, horse racing… The first investments in rugby took place in 2000, the group notably associating itself with series of XV de la Rose matches.
In 2010, Investec sponsored the Tri Nations (Australia, New Zealand, South Africa). It is currently still active in Super Rugby Pacific, a competition which brings together 12 Australian, New Zealand and Fijian franchises.

Investec also does some football work (Champions League, Europa League) and now supports the English club Tottenham as a jersey sponsor during FA Cup matches.
Quid d’Heineken?
The late famous “H Cup”? Yes for the appellation, no for the presence of the famous beer brand. When the arrival of Investec was announced, the EPCR was keen to point out that Heineken remained a “Premium” partner of the Champions Cup.
