Normally one would only expect chamois in the wild in the high mountains. At 640 meters high, the Kapuzinerberg, one of Salzburg’s two city mountains, may not exactly be considered high alpine – and yet a small herd of chamois lives here all year round. From the town 200 meters below, the Kapuzinerberg appears more like a hill, but in the north the mountain falls away steeply. This rocky terrain provides the handful of chamois with many climbing opportunities and good living conditions.
