Chambers see new opportunities for companies in Ireland because of Brexit

Neubrandenburg / Schwerin (dpa / mv) – According to the Chambers of Commerce and Industry, companies from Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania have a good chance of delivering more to Ireland in the future. In the wake of Brexit, Great Britain is losing its position as Ireland’s most important trading partner, said a spokesman for the Chamber of Commerce in Neubrandenburg on Wednesday. This opens up, among other things, automotive suppliers, food producers and suppliers to food manufacturers the opportunity to join the interrupted supply chains. Great Britain’s exports to the neighboring country have already collapsed by 40 percent, among other things due to import duties and other new trade barriers.

There are also new opportunities on the Irish market for wind energy and solar system manufacturers, it said. Ireland has already tripled its direct ship connections to the EU mainland.

Details on the Irish market and the necessary formalities and contacts are to be explained on a nationwide digital Ireland day on April 14, said the IHK spokesman. The German Ambassador to Ireland Deike Potzel and the Irish Chamber of Commerce will be represented. The chambers in Schwerin, Rostock and Neubrandenburg represent the interests of tens of thousands of companies in the northeast.
