A double-digit million deficit is emerging for the 2022 budget. The chamberlain, who was still in office, emphasized that the Greens and the FDP in particular knew about the financial situation. The planning must be corrected.

Peter Freier (CDU) did not even notice that he was voted out of office. The incumbent mayor and treasurer had to leave the gym of the Edith Stein School on Tuesday evening, while the new traffic light coalition initiated its recall in an extraordinary meeting of city councilors. “I would have been interested in what was said,” Freier said the next day. The dismissal will only become effective in four weeks, if the city council votes a second time.

There was controversial discussion both in the run-up to voting out and during the meeting on Tuesday. The SPD and FDP had written their own press releases to draw attention to the large budget gap in medium-term financial planning. The Greens were noticeably restrained. “One or the other discussion bothers me. The medium-term financial planning was known to everyone, “said Freier irritated on Wednesday. He pointed out the problems and challenges of the coming years. The last coalition, in which the FDP, the Greens and the Free Voters were involved in addition to the CDU, he informed extensively in late summer about the development and the problem drivers: the personnel costs, the home accommodation for children and young people, the costs for building maintenance and the public Local public transport (ÖPNV).

In the results budget, the planning for the year 2022 was an increase of 105,000 euros and in the financial budget it was minus nine million euros. According to the town hall, this amount will now have to be massively corrected. The shortfall is well in the double-digit million range. In the case of staff in particular, the calculation costs have exploded in the past five months. On April 30th, the finance department received these figures from the personnel office. In addition to personnel costs, this also includes pension payments and grants.

FDP misses Mister No.

The new traffic light coalition aims to save around 19 million euros in local public transport between 2022 and 2025. That would be around five million euros per year. If you consider that a kilometer driven costs five euros, around one million kilometers would have to be saved every year. And possibly also staff. The newly acquired electric buses are of little consequence because they are subsidized by the state. They were also necessary to comply with the clean air plan, otherwise driving bans in the city might have threatened.

Peter Freier is now holding talks with all 30 offices until he is finally voted out of office to see where the greatest deviations in costs are compared to previous years. “We take a close look at why something is increasing and also question some points,” said the CDU politician. His designated successor, Martin Wilhelm from the SPD, could already work with the finance department. “He gets a very clean transition,” says Freier.

The FDP parliamentary group leader Dominik criticized the medium-term financial planning: “There should have been a treasurer who often gives Mister No in Offenbach when politicians and public officials want to spend. Unfortunately, this stance failed to materialize. ”Now the new coalition will have to redefine. Another increase in property tax is not yet on the agenda, but given the huge deficit, it is quite conceivable.
