The House of Representatives now really wants to get rid of the loan system quickly. A motion to replace the student loan system with a basic grant was passed unanimously, ie all political groups voted in favour.
This is the text of the motion:
After hearing the deliberations, the House has noted that since the introduction of the student loan system the number of students with a student loan has risen sharply and the average student loan is also higher than before, it is of the opinion that it is undesirable for young people to have a piling up debts, having to look for work and a home, declares that the loan system must be abolished as soon as possible and replaced by a basic grant, and is the order of the day.
Volt’s motion to abolish the feudal system was also passed. The motion of SP leader Marijnissen, who also calls for the abolition of the student loan system and to look for an alternative together with student organizations, was not adopted. The LSVb is disappointed about that. (See earlier post)
The Interstedelijk Studentenoverleg is happy and wants to participate in the discussion about a new student grant system and “fair compensation for the generation of students who have studied under the student loan system”.
