Alfonso Medrano, president of the Chamber of Commerce of La Libertad, argued that the weather effects have caused a serious impact on the population due to the destruction of roads and sewers due to the overflow of rivers.
The region of La Libertad has been losing an estimated 500 million soles in the last five days due to rains and mudslides. This was revealed this Friday by Alfonso Medrano, president of the Chamber of Commerce of La Libertad.
Medrano gave some figures in RPP about the million-dollar losses they have been facing, since the roads are affected, causing damage to the productive and commercial flow. In this sense, he explained that the transport, tourism and commerce sectors are the most affected.
“La Libertad generates 110 million soles a day. With these rains there have been losses of 52 to 53 million soles per day. It is worth saying that in about five days we have lost around 260 million, apart from the damage to the road infrastructure, which is an estimated 200 million soles. So, we could say that, to date, the region has had a loss of about 500 million soles between damage to roads and to the commercial flow, ”he said.
Medrano said that Trujillo was left without drinking water for a few days, since the rains caused the main channel to collapse, but the problem was solved and little by little the service is being resumed.
On the other hand, he criticized the ineffective use of the resources that were allocated to the Authority for Reconstruction with Changes and urged the regional governor, César Acuña, to lead this situation to help the most affected provinces.
“There are around 51,000 million soles that have been allocated to the Authority for Reconstruction with Changes and only around 25,000 million have been used. That difference, what is the government going to do? Little or nothing has been done, because there has been a lot of Cabinet work and less field work. The ideal would be to put it in a trust and appoint an authority responsible for technicians who have the capacity, ”he said.
Huaico destroys water and drainage pipes
The landslide of a huaico in Chepén, product of the precipitations, has exposed the water and drainage pipes that can harm the residents of that jurisdiction.
The residents maintain that it is a “repeat movie” from 2017 due to the emergencies of the El Niño phenomenon. They added that they have been in the same situation for a week and, so far, no authority has come to this point to provide a solution to their demands. (Source: RPP)
