Chamber IV endorses temporary suspension of the San José Sports Committee

The decision to remove the previous president, vice president, secretary, treasurer and member of the Board of Directors was made in extraordinary session number 009 on August 28 of the current year, in order to carry out a forensic audit of the last 5 years.

The Constitutional Chamber considers that: “The action of the Municipal Council is, in reality, about applying to the plaintiffs a precautionary measure based on the need to ensure the objectivity and impartiality of the investigative process.”

Such measure is based on the existence of indications of possible irregularities in the management of the Cantonal Sports and Recreation Committee of San José.”

The Chamber also adds: “The temporary separation of the plaintiffs is justified as a preventive measure aimed at preventing those involved, by occupying positions within the Committee, from influencing the course of the Audit and the collection of evidence.”

The agreement of the Municipal Council does not constitute a definitive sanction or dismissal, but rather it is a temporary precautionary measure for the conduct and completion of an investigation.

“We have acted with all firmness within the framework of legality to clean up the Cantonal Sports Committee of San José and prevent resources from continuing to be wasted. Now we are going to insist on the external audit that determines the real state of the Committee’s finances. The vote of the Constitutional Chamber gives us confidence in what
we have been doing,” mentioned the mayor of San José, Diego Miranda.

For Mariana Zúñiga, president of the Municipal Council of San José, the resolution of the Constitutional Chamber “demonstrates that this collegiate body proceeded in accordance with the law and in order to protect the public interest, always ensuring the continuity of the services offered by the CCDRSJ. to the children and young people of the Canton.”

To guarantee continuity in the management of the CCDR, it was decided to appoint a temporary supervisory board. This board will be charged with overseeing the administration of the Committee while the audit investigation is conducted. Its objective will be to guarantee continuity in the provision of services.
