Chamber interrogates controversial mosques As-Sunnah and alFitrah | Interior

Starting next week, administrators of the controversial mosques As-Soennah in The Hague and alFitrah in Utrecht will be interrogated under oath by the House of Representatives, as well as the Islamic Foundation Netherlands, the Dutch branch of the Turkish mosque network Diyanet. The purpose of the interrogations is ultimately to be able to take measures to stop the undesirable influence from abroad.

The Chamber has been arguing about this for almost fruitless years. Legislation to curb money flows to mosques from “unfree countries” is still pending. The public interrogations, under oath, must lead to “effective measures to break this influence”.

AlFitrah refused to hand over the documents requested by the interrogation committee. And although the judge ruled in favor of the committee, the mosque school still does not cross the bridge. The appeal is on Friday, February 21, one day after the last interrogation of the interrogation committee.

“Even without the documents, the committee has enough information to be able to start the hearings,” says committee chairman Michel Rog (CDA). The interrogation committee also demanded documents from banks and from the Ministries of Finance, Justice and Security, and Social Affairs and Employment. Rog did not want to say why Foreign Affairs was not asked for information.

Minister Blok (Foreign Affairs) has always called on the House to disclose the lists of mosques that receive financing from Gulf states. Precisely because of diplomatic confidentiality, a country like Saudi Arabia gave information about the mosques, the minister reasoned.

In addition to mosque administrators and mayors, the Chamber also interrogates AIVD boss Dick Schoof and terrorist Ronald Sandee.
