Chamber approves corona pass for non-essential shops

A majority of the House of Representatives agrees with the option of making the corona admission ticket mandatory in non-essential shops. The House is still adding something to the law of the cabinet. If customers can keep 1.5 meters away, the corona pass is not mandatory.

It concerns a possible corona measure for the future. The law makes it possible for the cabinet to determine by ministerial regulation that customers in non-essential shops must show their corona ticket and that shopkeepers must check it.

By the cabinet, non-essential shops and services are understood to mean, for example, furniture stores and hairdressers. A supermarket and a broker are essential, so the measure will not apply there.

Whistles

There are many questions about the law in the House of Representatives, including the definition of ‘non-essential’. If the cabinet issues a ministerial regulation, the House of Representatives can make a decision afterwards. In that case, a parliamentary majority could whistle back the cabinet.

The law falls under the Temporary Covid-19 Measures Act, which is always valid for three months and can then be extended again after approval by the House of Representatives and the Senate.

VVD, D66, CDA, ChristenUnie, PvdA, GroenLinks and Den Haan voted in favor of the bill. All groups voted in favor of the adjustment to allow the 1.5 meter distance as an alternative.
