Jakarta –
Who says front wheel drive can’t climb? We proved the Toyota Kijang Innova Zenix on a road trip cruising Sumatra from Jakarta to Sabang.
The Toyota Kijang Innova has changed completely with the presence of the Innova Zenix. Now, the Toyota Kijang Innova Zenix carries the Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA) platform with front-wheel drive, aka Front Wheel Drive (FWD).
The use of a monocoque chassis and front-wheel drive has changed the tradition of the Toyota Kijang, which so far has always used a ladder-frame chassis model and rear-wheel drive (RWD).
However, the use of front-wheel drive is often underestimated. In fact, it is not so influential in devouring various fields on the streets of Indonesia.
We have proven it along the roads of Sumatra. Even steep inclines can be traversed by the Innova Zenix, both petrol and hybrid versions.
Innova Zenix V Gasoline
As an illustration, the Toyota Kijang Innova Zenix petrol engine version carries a 2,000 cc TNGA engine coded M20A-FKS Dynamic Force Engine. This 1,987 cc four-cylinder dual VVT-i capacity engine produces up to 174 PS of power at 6,600 rpm with a maximum torque of 204.9 Nm. When compared to its predecessor, the power and torque of this engine are greater than the gasoline Innova Reborn.
The engine is connected to a CVT transmission coded K120. This transmission combines a steel belt and gear transmission which can widen the transmission ratio range. A 10-speed Sequential Shiftmatic mode is adopted to enable gearshifts like a manual transmission. There is also an uphill/downhill shift control for passing mountain routes.
The character of the gasoline engine on the Innova Zenix V is fairly orderly. Even on the toll road, the Innova Zenix V can keep up with the Innova Zenix Hybrid. If you need more power, just turn off Eco mode and immediately play manual transmission mode. The acceleration of the Innova Zenix V is quite responsive. Over the incline was not difficult.
Innova Zenix Q Hybrid TSS Modelista
Innova Zenix Q Hybrid is even more responsive. Understandably, the Toyota Kijang Innova Zenix Hybrid EV combines a 2,000 cc M20A-FXS TNGA engine (152 PS at 6,000 rpm and a maximum torque of 187.3 Nm at 4,400-5,200 rpm) with an electric motor with a power of 113 PS and 205.9 Nm of torque.
As a result, the combined power reaches 186 PS. Its power is increased compared to the petrol Innova Reborn (139 PS) and diesel (149 PS). The Toyota Kijang Innova Zenix Hybrid EV is equipped with a Ni-MH hybrid battery which is packaged in a compact package and stored under the two front seats without reducing space in the cabin area. Just like the V type, the Zenix Q Hybrid also uses a CVT transmission.
It seems that the Innova Zenix Q Hybrid is very pleasant to accelerate with. Moreover, specifically for the Hybrid type, the Innova Zenix has an EV driving mode besides Eco, Normal and Power. By using Power mode, the engine and electric motor combine to produce responsive acceleration.
