KRANJSKA GORA. Even in the Slovenian resort of Kranjska Gora, the organizers are struggling with a lack of snow. Challenging conditions are expected due to the weather conditions.
“From this point of view, it will probably be similar to Lienzi. However, it probably won’t be so tragic that they cancel the race. They have a lot of experience in Slovenia.
They know how to prepare the track. The weather forecast is not the best, and if it starts to rain, it will be a challenge,” revealed Petra Vlhova’s coach Mauro Pini.
The Swiss trainer was not satisfied with the performance of his charge at the race in Lienzi.
“We did not leave there happy. The first day we had problems with the snow, we were not able to show our best.
Although, in the second round it already worked out and it was similar to Mont-Tremblant. Unfortunately, things did not go as planned on Sunday and Petra was not able to perform at her best.”
They closed the gap
After the race in Austria, Petra Vlhová went to Italy for better training conditions. From there he will travel to Kranjska Gora.
“We were in Toblach, where we had several options for training, and from where we are also close to Slovenia. We will also complete Friday’s final training session here before the race, as it will not be possible in Kranjska Gora,” explained the Swiss about the current situation.
The turn of the year also offers an opportunity to evaluate the current season.
“I’m personally satisfied, especially in the “workshop” we narrowed the gap between us and the best. In the slalom, Petra raised the bar really high, which we are proud of and which we definitely want to continue,” added Pini.
Warming up is the foundation
Giant slalom and slalom are on the program in Kranjska Gora. The lack of snow will not allow female skiers to properly warm up before the race.
“It’s also about the fact that female racers can’t warm up on the slope, so they basically go straight from bed to the start. It’s risky.
That is also why several of our coaches have already appealed to the competent ones so that it is possible to start every time. Only in that case is it possible to go to the maximum,” Pini indicated the problem.
“There is no room for that. It is difficult to give maximum performance from scratch. I’m also the type who needs to get going. Finding the same movement as I do on skis is very challenging.
There are various factors that can affect the race. It is really important that I warm up well and give maximum performance. However, everyone has the same conditions and whoever manages them better wins,” added Vlhová.
Last year in Kranjska Gora, the Slovak took third and fourth place in the giant slalom. The slalom race was held at the center two years ago. Victory was won by Vlhová, just like in 2020.
