Challenges in Distributing Monetary Gift to Needy Families in Våler Municipality

(The Easterner) Ottar Haugen in Våler told the municipal council meeting in Våler on Monday evening about the problem they have had with the monetary gift to 20 needy families with children.

– There is only one thing to say about this. It is sad, said mayor Harry Vinje. And no one in the municipal council disagreed with that.

– We were hoping for help from Nav to find those who need it most, and that Nav could distribute to the right families without us needing to know who will receive it, says Ottar Haugen.

Head of Nav Solør, Knut Erik Skaret, praises the initiative. But he says that Nav does not currently have the capacity to do the job.

– Very disappointing

Deputy chairman of LHL Våler, Ottar Haugen, is disappointed that Nav could not take the assignment.

– We have distributed a few kroner before Christmas in the previous two years. Then it was Nav Våler who selected those who needed such an extra grant. It went well. Many people were happy, and therefore we decided to increase the sum from NOK 1,500 to NOK 2,000 per person. family now.

– Is there any other possibility to get this done? Can you choose yourself who can receive this welcome contribution?

– We cannot start such a process where we select the families ourselves. We do not think it will be right in relation to the duty of confidentiality, among other things. Nobody knows better than Nav who should get a little extra. I don’t think we should know who gets it, says Haugen.

Now he hopes to find another solution.

– After all, we want the 40,000 kroner to reach 20 families who need a little extra for Christmas. NOK 2,000 is perhaps not that much for a whole family with children. But it is a little bit and will certainly come in handy, says Ottar Haugen in LHL Våler.

– Does not have capacity

Manager at Nav Solør, Knut Erik Skaret, says that there are many teams and associations that contact Nav for help in finding recipients and distributing the money.

– This is really a good measure. It’s really good. But it will be quite a lot of work for us to find those who need it most, as well as get the money sent to them. We also have many inquiries directly from people who ask for a little more in connection with Christmas. This is something we have to look at. It all simply takes so much time that we don’t have the capacity to help everyone who wants to give, says Skaret.

He asks those who need a little extra now to contact the donors directly

Ottar Haugen in LHL Våler believes that those who most need help are reluctant to contact anyone other than Nav.

– I fear that they can quickly remain seated without getting the extra help, says Haugen.

LHL Våler, through its members, is very good at contributing both money and equipment to various groups in the home municipality.

Among other things, it has financed various equipment for doctors’ offices for many years. In the last two years, they have also given money to needy families with children.
