With nearly 120,000 students in Toulouse (Haute-Garonne), housing is a major issue for parents. A few days before the start of the academic year, students are currently taking over their studios, some of which are in the rooms of the Crous (Regional Center for University and School Works). Lower-cost accommodation favored by scholarship holders and students on a tight budget, with one-bedroom studios ranging from 9 to 11 m2 for rents of between 210 and 340 euros, without state aid. Some residences offer one-bedroom apartments, especially for couples, and two-bedroom apartments for shared accommodation or families.
This year, the Crous recorded 12,502 requests for 11,000 available accommodations, spread over 41 residences in Toulouse and its agglomeration. “Faced with a tight housing market, we have a proactive construction policy with the opening of three new residences this year, i.e. 643 more rooms, explains Dominique Froment, general delegate of Crous Toulouse Haute-Garonne. They are always close to places of education and we are still looking for new land for new projects. All accommodations are furnished to avoid installation costs”.
The International City of Researchers is also getting involved
In March, the Cité Internationale des Chercheurs developed by the University of Toulouse, in the Saint-Michel district, will increase the supply of 383 accommodation units intended for short and long-term accommodation of students, particularly foreign students. .
Despite inflation and the rise in student precariousness, requests have only increased by 200 to 300 files this year. The Crous reminds you that it is possible to make requests during the year, for example during internships knowing that the students are mobile.
