“Chemistry, which used to be taken for an entire swimming pool for fifteen thousand, now costs fifty thousand. You have to maintain the water, whether people are there or not,” said the operator of several Prague swimming pools, who also called this summer a liquidation one.

He introduced himself to the editors as Dan Teplan, and one of the swimming pools that he manages is known primarily among the residents of Prague 8. It is the Stírka Swimming Pool, which is located in a quiet area between family houses, not far from the Kobylisy metro stop.

Here we find one large pool, which has dimensions of 42.5 by 16.5 meters. And also a children’s oval pool with a diameter of 16.5 meters with a water mushroom and a slide.

There is also a snack stand with a typical offer of “swimming pool” snacks – hot dog or fried cheese in a bun.

The entrance fee for an adult will be 220 crowns. Students and seniors get it for one hundred and fifty.

REPORT: “A first-grader will appreciate it the most when his parents prepare a small gift in the form of a joint visit to a candy store for his first report card,” he told the editors…

Even this swimming pool suffers from low attendance. According to the operator, it cannot be compared with previous years.

Of course, the weather is to blame.

“You don’t have summer now. Or have you seen sunshine and hot days? It’s hard to compare it when last year June was nice and this year it’s not,” the operator told the editors.

However, according to their words, they have experienced similar situations in the past.

Liquidation…

This year, however, he is troubled by increased prices. From energy to resources that are necessary for the operation of the swimming pool.

“It’s liquidating. For example, chemistry, which used to be taken for the entire swimming pool for fifteen thousand, now costs fifty thousand. You have to keep the water there, whether people are there or not. That’s almost four times the cost. In addition, electricity is twice as expensive, starting next year it will be again. Gas is also more expensive,” says the operator of several swimming pools.

“Chlorine is especially important. This one is three times more expensive. The price of pH minus has increased fivefold, that is the acid used to ensure that the water meets the parameters and is safe. Then there are other things, for example, against the formation of algae, it has become more expensive perhaps tenfold. It used to cost two thousand, now it costs twenty,” adds Teplan.

Without young people

It operates more campuses. Generally speaking, swimming pools no longer attract young people.

“The visitors are different at each site. Mostly families go. It can be said that there are fewer young people, more middle-aged and seniors.’

He has been running a business related to swimming pools for 25 years, and he has noticed the decline in youth over the years.

“You can see the difference there. Young people really go less,” concluded the operator of Koupaliště Stírka.

The administrators of the swimming pool in Čakovice also admitted significantly higher costs to us. We will deal with them in the next material.

We covered the situation in Radotín, Žluty Lázně, at the Petynka swimming pool or in the Podolsk pool HERE.
