Challenges and Renovations: Farmen Couple Tonje and Lene’s Journey in Their New House

It was in March that the “Farmen” couple and influencers Tonje Frøystad Garvik (34) and Lene Sleperud (34) could reveal that they had taken the plunge and bought a house. Together with their sons Max (1) and Leo (1), they previously lived in an apartment, but when they went from two to four in less than a year, the desire for more space also crept up.

– I am saying no

The family took over the new house at the start of the summer, and large parts of the holiday have thus been spent on moving and refurbishing. Now they are finally starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel – but there is still one thing holding them back a little.

Faced with challenges

– We are, so to speak, finished with what we have to do in the first half. We brought all the furniture from the old apartment, we also want to settle in a bit before we decorate with pictures and all that. The house is much bigger than the apartment, and therefore needs more furniture, but we mostly got the new furniture at Finn – so we have actually made some good choices there, Garvik proudly tells Se og Hør.

However, it has not been smooth sailing all the way.

– We have encountered some speed bumps, admits Sleperud, and elaborates further:

– It is a house from 2000, and when Hans (extreme weather, journalist note) came, it started leaking from the roof. There was a leak around the pipe, a water damage which was investigated last year but which turned out not to have been fixed anyway. So there has already been a bit of insurance damage and a bit to manage. You have to assume that there is more control with a house than an apartment, but we had not imagined these challenges so quickly. When it comes to water damage, it is also expensive to fix.

Puts a stop

What has been done in the house so far is that all surfaces have been painted, they have replaced over 100 square meters of flooring and upgraded all of the lighting

– We haven’t changed the kitchen, but we varnished all surfaces so they look brand new. It was a reasonable solution. We’ll have to wait a bit for the rest. Lene really wants new furniture, including an expensive dining table – but she won’t be allowed to do that until we have prioritized the most important things, says Garvik.

– An extremely vulnerable topic

– I understand that she would prefer to have all the furniture in place at once, but we have to prioritize the most important things first, and then expensive furniture has to wait until the water damage etc. is fixed. We are waiting for feedback from our insurance on whether they will cover everything. Everything has become more expensive and, in addition, we have gone from two to four and the children have to have new clothes and equipment every week. It’s absolutely insane. So then the most expensive furniture will have to wait until we have a better overview of future costs.

– Fortunately, we have avoided the biggest changes and done a lot ourselves. It’s amazing how much a little painting and changing the floor can do to a house. It is also a very nice house from before.

– It goes in one

After a summer characterized by moving and renovation, the family is now starting to get back to everyday life again. For Leo, there has recently been a run-in at the nursery, and both Garvik and Sleperud are back at work.

– With two children under the age of two, it’s almost a bit of a holiday to come back to work and not think about entertaining someone all the time, admits Sleperud.

– It’s been full swing since we bought the house in March, and it goes hand in hand with house and children, but it’s a lot of fun. We like to have a lot to do, although it will be nice to land a little so that we can do things we like to do, and not just what we have to.

The summer months were spent in Norway, but soon a holiday abroad awaits the mothers of two.

– Julian Bjørnerem, brand manager for Halvor Bakke (TV profile, 52, journ.anm.) has a birthday in a couple of weeks, so we’re going to a wine castle in France to celebrate there, together with the two of them, among others. Then mum comes to Oslo and takes care of the boys. It will be the first time I’ve been away from my youngest since I gave birth, so I’m a bit excited about how I’ll cope, but you just have to start living normally again, emphasizes Garvik.
