It was deliberately chosen that Burning Man takes place in the desert. The nearest city is Reno, about 200 to 300 kilometers away. Tens of thousands travel by car and the traffic jams are huge.
“We stopped for 4 hours on a mountain pass due to a fatal accident”, Van de Voorde remembers well. “It’s an area that’s actually not accessible.”
In the desert you have the corresponding temperatures. “Whoever sleeps in a tent wakes up at 40 degrees. And sometimes you spend two days in your tent, camper or camp due to sand storms,” says Van de Voorde about the difficult circumstances. “Nature works against it. Burning Man sees that as a challenge.”
