Challenges and Concerns with the Implementation of Algorithm Register – Insights and Perspectives

It’s good that there will be a register for transparency, but the fact that they get two years (!) for this does not give me a feeling of confidence that they have it under control at the moment.

Your feeling is also correct. At least: in the organizations I know, not all algorithms are in the picture.

I don’t work with it every day, so my knowledge may be outdated, but from what I understand from colleagues there are several problems with the register.

Firstly, the scope and definition are unclear. Different definitions of an algorithm are used by the government. That is not very conducive to the scope of the inventory.

Secondly, many (executive) governments use applications and algorithms from third parties (read: suppliers). We sometimes hit a wall there when we ask for clarification about their algorithm(s). Hassle with intellectual property and competitive position, etc.

More and more attention is being paid to the use of algorithms. For example, in tenders. DPIAs are DEDAsessions etc carried out. But this takes time. You have to start somewhere
