There are still five rounds to play in the Challenge League – and the fight for promotion is in full swing! Who prevails in the end? A comment.
the essentials in brief
- Winterthur, Schaffhausen and Aarau duel for promotion to the Super League.
- On Friday (8.15 p.m.) leader “Winti” welcomes the people of Munotstadt.
- If you want to move up, you have to be mentally ready.
The promotion race in the Challenge League is more exciting than ever. Who goes straight up, who makes it into the barrage? Winterthur, Schaffhausen and Aarau are all still in the middle of the race!
The club that gets promoted in the end has done the best work, especially mentally. Because: The direct ascent from the Challenge League becomes a matter of the mind – and this is where the coaches come into play.
Ex-Nati star Alex Frei has been a coach at FC Winterthur since the second half of the season. He is known to be very ambitious and also addresses critical issues directly. Frei should be able to tease the last reserves out of the players.
In addition, Roman Buess has also returned to the leader, who missed nine games injured. FCW has not lost in the four games since its comeback. And Buess has netted twice again.
Schaffhausen scores goals – is Aarau reacting to the bear market?
FC Schaffhausen has secretly worked its way forward. With Raul Bobadilla, the Munotstädter even got an “extra snapper”. And this despite the fact that FCS already have a top scorer in their ranks in Joaquin Ardaiz (18 goals in 31 games!) Whoever scores a lot of goals is certain to be in the final draw for the first places.
In addition, there are two “full-blooded football junkies” on the sidelines at Schaffhausen: veteran Martin Andermatt and tactical fox and “game reader” Hakan Yakin.
FC Aarau was well on the way to direct promotion for a very long time. Then everyone started talking about the possible FCA promotion – and a bear market promptly followed. Five of the last seven games have been lost, which is not conducive to a good atmosphere.
In addition, critical voices were raised against coach Stephan Keller, which is normal after a series of bankruptcies. Now the responsibility lies with the trainer to reignite the fire for the “mission rise”. Because: Measured by the player squad, FCA should actually be promoted. But precisely: “Had to” can suddenly also become a burden.
Direct duels are an important factor
We’ll know more by Friday evening. Then the Aarauer travel to Neuchâtel in the Challenge League. And on the Schützenwiese there is a cracker in Winterthur against Schaffhausen. The winner of this top battle takes over the leader’s throne – and morally pulls the favor of the hour on his side.
The direct duels will have a major impact on the order. Not only the cracker from Friday, but also the duel Schaffhausen-Aarau in the penultimate round. The following applies here: Losing is forbidden – otherwise the promotion skins will swim away!
