Challenge Cup. Vandoeuvre-Nancy Volley-Ball in a bubble in Istanbul, Las Palmas or… Vandoeuvre?

The health crisis is forcing leagues and federations to invent ways of survival likely to bring the competitions to an end. The European Volleyball Confederation (CEV) is no exception to the rule and the VNVB, qualified for the very first time in its history in the European Cup, will be directly affected by a change of format in the coming days.

In principle, Radoslav Arsov’s team were to play in December an eighth-final round-trip against Spain’s Gran Canaria team. However, in order to limit travel between European countries as much as possible, the CEV is about to endorse a change of formula: the eighth and quarter-finals will take place simultaneously on four sites, organized in the form of health bubbles ( in camera of course).

Concretely, the VNVB will face Gran Canaria in the round of 16, but in a dry match and in a place that will be communicated in the coming days. The winner of this face-to-face will face, two days later and in the same place, the winner of the match between THY Istanbul (Turkey) and CSM Lugoj (Romania).

In the table part of the VNVB, three clubs have officially applied to host the field, mid-December: Istanbul, Gran Canaria and… Vandoeuvre-Nancy. Small clarification which is important: travel and accommodation are the responsibility of the clubs … So, the Bosphorus, Las Palmas or Vandoeuvre? Imminent verdict.
