A 44-year-old shipyard repair crew manager was arrested by the Halkida port authority, after a 42-year-old worker was fatally injured during work on a Cypriot-flagged passenger ferry that was moored at the Chalkida Shipyards.

At noon yesterday, the Port Authority of Chalkida was informed of the injury of a 42-year-old local worker in a private repair shop, during work on a Cyprus-flagged E/G-O/G-T/X ship, which was docked at the facilities of the Chalkida Shipyards Chalkida.
Immediately, officers of LS-EL.AKT and a team of the Fire Service went to the scene, while the 42-year-old was transported by ambulance of the EKAB to the General Hospital of Chalkida, where he was pronounced dead.
The Central Port Authority of Chalkida, which is conducting the preliminary investigation, arrested the 44-year-old local manager of the workshop, while the ship’s departure was prohibited until a certificate from the classifier monitoring it was presented. The body is to be transferred to the Forensic Laboratory of the University of Athens for a necropsy.
