Chairman of the SDS Criticizes Candidacy of Vasil Terziev for Sofia Mayor

The chairman of the SDS Rumen Hristov expressed his position regarding the candidacy of Vasil Terziev for mayor of Sofia, the press center of the political formation reported.

In his Facebook profile, Hristov criticized the PP-DB’s choice to nominate Terziev as a candidate for mayor of the capital. “The layers behind this candidacy take us to the past, stigmatized by European Bulgaria, to the communist regime, declared by the Bulgarian parliament to be criminal, to the dark years when State Security ruined the lives and destinies of entire generations,” writes Hristov.

The chairman of the SDS expresses regret that when there was such an opportunity, the SDS did not do a full lustration.

Here is Hristov’s entire position:

The PP-DB candidate for mayor of Sofia appears to be an intelligent person, widely advertised as a successful businessman and innovator. That’s good news, but that’s where it ends. The layers behind this candidacy take us to the past, stigmatized by European Bulgaria, to the communist regime, declared criminal by the Bulgarian parliament, to the dark years when State Security ruined the lives and destinies of entire generations. If Vasil Terziev had been nominated by the BSP, it would have been the most normal political decision, because he fully embodies the promise of Todor Zhivkov, who declared a few months before November 10 to a group of young communists: “Comrades, it’s time to turn political power into economic !”. But Terziev was promoted by those who call themselves “change” and “urban right”! Sounds absurd, right?! But it’s a fact. And how should we understand Hristo Ivanov’s desire from 2016 for lustration of the second generation? What changed this belief of his, so that he recognizes a third generation successor of DS as a candidate?! A question to which there may be more than one answer, because I have repeatedly said that “Yes, Bulgaria” are not right-wing. Not so with the supporters of the DSB, who I believe continue to be staunch right-wing anti-communists and democrats. Will they swallow this application, we will find out in the fall.

I wonder how the so-called urban rightists did not find a successful grandson of those repressed by communism, of victims of the People’s Court, of camp workers from “Belene”, “Sunny Beach”, Skravena, of large entrepreneurs from before September 9?! Maybe because such there are no successful young people. Probably, while Terziev was saving for snacks, as he himself convinces us, they had no way to save, but fought for survival during the crises that the BSP administrations brought us to during the transition. And how is it that the young millionaires in Bulgaria are children, grandchildren or have some connection with the red nomenclature and State Security? Are they the smartest and most enterprising Bulgarians? Absolutely not! They are the clear proof that the economic networks of the DS are strong and healthy to this day. And one of the great sins of the SDS when it had all the power is that it did not do a full lustration! Although I was not in a high party position during that period, I apologize and deeply regret this mistake! If we had done so, today we would not be discussing why the grandson and son of senior DS officers is a candidate for mayor of Sofia. And from now on, I warn that if he is elected mayor, Terziev will be the next prime minister, because State Security will not miss the opportunity to regain control of all the power hidden behind its “successful” successors.

Vasil Terziev’s candidacy for mayor of Sofia was officially presented on June 27. “Continuing the change”, “Democratic Bulgaria”, “Save Sofia” and “Sofia Team” stood behind him.
