SUMAR – The chairman of the Hynstedagen in Sumar, Jelte Wiersma from Damwâld, received a Royal Award from Dantumadiel mayor Klaas Agricola on Saturday. Mr Wiersma was appointed Member of the Order of Orange Nassau.
Mr. Wiersma has been active in the field of equestrian sports for many years. From 1999 to 2010 board member and from 2010 to 2017 chairman of the organization of the event, the Fryske Hynstefokferiening Ta it Bihâld. Subsequently from that position, Mr Wiersma has been chairman of the Hynstedagen Tytsjerksteradiel since 2019.
Since 2012, Mr. Wiersma has been active as a volunteer at Stichting Alliade. Jelte Wiersma is active as a bus driver and takes clients from the care location to all kinds of (sports) activities. Mr. Wiersma was also active for the Reformed Church in Damwâld. He fulfilled various offices such as that of elder and deacon.
In addition, Mr. Wiersma has been active as a carrier for “Uitvaartvereniging Damwoude eo” for more than 25 years.
