Chairman of Corruption Eradication Commission Firli Bahuri Fails to Attend Dewas Examination, Raises Suspicion of Ethical Violations

Jakarta

Chairman of the Corruption Eradication Commission Firli Bahuri did not meet the inspection agenda by the Board of Supervisors (Dewas) Corruption Eradication Commission. He asked for the examination schedule to be postponed, while Dewas considered that the postponement of the agenda took too long.

This case started with a meeting between Firli and Syahrul Yasin Limpo who in the past was Minister of Agriculture. Now Syahrul is no longer in office after the Corruption Eradication Committee named Syahrul as a suspect in a corruption case within his ministry.

The photo of Firli and Syahrul’s meeting was highlighted by the public following the excitement of the KPK law enforcement process against Syahrul. The photo contains the incident of the meeting between Firli and Syahrul at the badminton court in the Mangga Besar area, Jakarta.

Seen in the photo, Firli is wearing a tracksuit with shorts and sneakers. Meanwhile, Syahrul did not wear a tracksuit but instead wore a short-sleeved shirt and jeans. Syahrul wears glasses and accessories such as bracelets on his left hand. There was a box of boiled corn and a glass between Firli and Syahrul, they both sat on the ceramic bench at that location. Apart from the two of them, there was actually another person sitting to the left of Syahrul.

The meeting raised speculation about a conflict of interest. How could Firli, who is the Chairman of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK), meet a litigant, namely Syahrul? Firli once answered this that the meeting took place before Firli went to court at the KPK. Firli stated that the meeting took place in March 2022.

Long story short, someone reported Firli to the KPK Supervisory Board, the ethics body at the anti-corruption law enforcement institution. The agenda for summoning Firli and the four Deputy Chairmen of the KPK was scheduled by the KPK Council.

“We specifically focus on ethics, so the focus of the Dewas is examining alleged ethical violations, of which there are two. One, the alleged extortion by the KPK leadership. Second, the alleged meeting between Mr. FB and Mr. SYL on a badminton court,” said Dewas KPK member, Syamsuddin Haris.

Firli et al were asked to come to the KPK Dewas examination on Friday (27/10/2023). But Firli didn’t come.

Furthermore, Firli did not come, Dewas considered the delay too long:
