Ivo Injev: MOCHA is the biggest monument to lies in Bulgaria
Another good day since December 12th finally saw the dismantling of MOCHA, the monument that I thus named the Monument to the Red Army of Occupation 12 years ago. So on 12/12/2023 it started happening. This is what the writer and publicist Ivo Injev told the “Focus” Agency.
“Now I have a few remarks. First, it is not true at all that this is a movable cultural heritage. We, as an initiative to dismantle this monument, a non-governmental organization, have long asked the Ministry of Culture, and I wonder why no one thought of this. And we had a personal answer from Deputy Minister Todor Chobanov that this is not a cultural value, it does not come under this definition. So this question, in itself, is artificially invented, does not exist. Secondly, I do not agree that it is difficult to dismantle, it is very easy to dismantle. It was more difficult to dismantle the monuments during the communist regime, when they hammered them. And they tried in every way to deceive the public. For example, we never saw how they dismantled the Leonid Monument Brezhnev, the general secretary of the Politburo of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union, who was personally inaugurated by Todor Zhivkov and Stanko Todorov, the two first men in communist Bulgaria, with a guard of honor in front of him. But after a few years, when Brezhnev fell posthumously into disgrace and his successors began to change, the monument was dismantled. How exactly did they dismantle it, was it with a flex or a hammer, do you think that makes any difference? These tales, which had been cut piece by piece, as the president put it. I’m very sorry, how was it to be dismantled, did the whole thing have to be lifted?” Injev also said.
According to him, they should have asked the Soviet specialists, because when they were building the Aswan Dam in Egypt, the Soviet specialists there boasted how they had lifted many of the ancient Egyptian sculptors with large cranes.
“They have a lot of experience, I remember in black-and-white cinema, it was advertised to us in the movie reviews as a great achievement of Soviet engineering thought. They had to ask how to do this thing with an almost 8-meter structure, which certainly weighs an awful lot tons. When this monument was erected, it was also put up piece by piece. This must also be said. All these piecemeal arguments have another counter-argument. I today, even wrote, suggested to the deputies of the majority, who are being harassed from the minority in the capacity of a kind of militia cordon in the parliament, which hinders the work in the parliament, to ask the following question by analogy: we have been neglected and marginalized for decades with talk about whether now is the time, is this the most important thing. Well, they want now to restore, to reanimate the already deceased monument. This cannot be done. And to say, to add, shouldn’t we take care of the people, of the hospitals, of the kindergartens, of social justice and others, instead of being blocked here the work of parliament. It’s just that it doesn’t occur to them, and that’s why I suggest,” Injev added.
According to him, the thief calls catch the thief, the barbarian calls barbarians those who systematically demolished monuments.
“Do you know how many churches in the Soviet Union or in Russia were destroyed by the Bolsheviks. I don’t remember from memory either, but there are hundreds. There are also in Bulgaria. I published a list of destroyed monuments, including the Botev monument, at the time of communism in the center of Vratsa. So many monasteries were mockingly turned into taverns by the “Balkanturist” of the time, and what not. They took down their own monuments themselves. How many monuments to Stalin have been dismantled, to Todor Zhivkov, to Lenin, they did all this on a huge scale. And now they have started with one, which was barbarism. I apologize profusely, but this deserves a real, so to speak, informed pushback. Let those politicians who support this right action with the dismantling of MOCHA listen to the people who have followed this topic for so many years. And to see with what arguments they can be opposed, so as not to let them speak monologue on this subject. There is nothing barbaric about freeing yourself from the lie of the occupation that claims to have been liberation,” the writer pointed out.
According to Ivo Injev, MOCHA is the biggest monument to lies in Bulgaria. Because to say that this is a monument to the Soviet Army is factually incorrect in itself.
He informed that in his books he wrote the memories of the son of a military Bulgarian pilot who witnessed how a Bulgarian landing party was launched in broad daylight on German positions in Skopje on Soviet orders, with the aim of killing these elite units of Bulgarian commandos then, essentially because they had been trained by Germans before. And they were practically killed most mercilessly by the Germans in the air. The pilot in question tells his son how they grouped up, the jumpers wanted to jump two at a time so that someone without children could line up in front and take the lead with his chest so that the one behind him would have some chance of survival. However, these things are not widely known in Bulgaria. They cover up en masse and keep silent en masse. And this is the reason why pee has survived for so many years.
