Chairman Kim Park (81) of Altwell presented winter padding to the Korean War veterans and their descendants who attended the ‘Turn Toward Busan’ ceremony to commemorate the Korean War veterans. Previously, Chairman Kim led the effort to erect statues of President Syngman Rhee and President Truman of the United States, adjacent to the statue of General Paik Sun-yup, at the battlefield in Dabu-dong, Chilgok-gun, Gyeongsangbuk-do.

Minister of Patriots and Veterans Affairs Park Min-sik announced this news on Facebook on the 11th, saying, “I am posting some warm news on a cold day.” Minister Park said, “This is a text message I received yesterday. It says that Chairman Kim Park will dress the 76 UN veterans of the Korean War and their descendants who visited our country in winter padding in case they catch a cold in this cold weather.”

Minister Park said, “We connected immediately. “About 30 million won!” and “I will never forget the dedication of the veterans who rushed to help a country whose name I did not know 73 years ago. “Let’s give a big round of applause to Chairman Kim Park.”

Looking at the text message photo posted by Minister Park, Chairman Kim said, “It seems like veterans have come to Korea, but they are elderly and I am worried that they will catch a cold due to the sudden cold weather. Please prepare a padded jacket. “Resuscitation will pay the cost,” he sent a text message to Minister Park.

Chairman Kim erected statues of Presidents Syngman Rhee and Truman at the Dabu-dong battlefield in July of this year, the 70th anniversary of the ROK-US alliance. In 2016, Chairman Kim established the ‘Syngman Rhee, Truman, and Park Chung-hee Statue Promotion Group’ and paid the 1.5 billion won cost of erecting the statue out of his own pocket.

In relation to this, Chairman Kim said in an interview with this newspaper last August, “It is said that the first and last time the two met was at his home in Missouri, USA, in August 1954, after President Truman left office. “We reunited at Dabu-dong after 69 years,” he said. “(The Battle of Dabu-dong) was the first joint ROK-US operation and laid the foundation for the Incheon Landing Operation, so I thought there was no better place to serve the supreme commanders of the two countries.” .

Chairman Kim runs the Altwell Mincho Scholarship Foundation. The foundation was established in 2000 and selects and awards scholarships to approximately 100 scholarship students every year. It is said that until last year, a total of 763 people received scholarships worth 20.5 billion won. In recognition of his contributions, Chairman Kim received the Rose of Sharon Medal, the highest rank among national decorations, from President Yoon Seok-yeol at the ‘2023 Local Era Expo and Local Autonomy and Balanced Development Day Commemoration Ceremony’ on the 2nd.
