In an interview with NRC, Simons indicated on Thursday that he did not want to share what Beertema said. “It touched me, but I don’t feel like commenting whether it was bad enough or racist enough.” She also declined to comment further on the incident.

Tellegen did not give Simons the floor, and when he kept insisting, she lunged towards the BIJ1 MP. She said Simons “continuously” interrupts people. “It looks like a kindergarten in here! Raising my four children at home is easier than directing this meeting!” said Tellegen fiercely. She said that she also referred to the other MPs present.

“The President, the Vice-Presidents and the Committee Chairs represent the Institute of the House of Representatives and are neutral in this role. They do their job to the best of their ability,” according to a spokesperson in the letter that Bergkamp sent to Simons.

However, Bergkamp is of the opinion “that everyone should be able to feel safe in the Chamber Building.” A meeting is soon planned between her and Simons about “the manners in the Chamber.”

“In this conversation, the expressed feelings of (social) insecurity in parliament can also be discussed,” said the spokesperson. Bergkamp had previously announced that she wanted to hold discussions with all political groups about manners in the debate. The reason for this were statements by MPs of the Forum for Democracy about tribunals and the condoning of intimidating e-mails from the supporters to other MPs.
