10 people died and more than 50 were injured this morning in a chain accident in northwestern Turkey’s Sakarya districtthe Anatolian Agency reported.
They were involved in the accident on the Severna Marmara highway in the direction of Istanbul seven vehicles, including three buses and a truck. The reasons for the traffic accident are not yet known.
Turkish private television NTV, quoted by Reuters, notes that at the time of the crash there was thick fog and visibility was poor.
Gendarmerie, firefighters, medical teams and representatives of the Disaster and Emergency Management Directorate (AFAD) have arrived at the scene.

The Walia of Sakarya Yashar Karadeniz said that according to preliminary information, 10 people died and 57 were injured in the crash, seven of them seriously. Some of the injured have been hospitalized. In his words the chain disaster started after a car hit a truck. He indicated that according to initial data, some of the victims died after getting out of their cars on the highway and being swept by other cars.
At the same time, the Minister of Health Fahretin Koca wrote in his profile on the X social network that 59 were injured, eight of them seriously.
The work to remove the cars involved in the accident from the road continues. Traffic on the highway in the direction of Istanbul has been stopped.

The Sakarya County Prosecutor’s Office has opened an investigation into the crash.
Justice Minister Yilmaz Tunc said that “three prosecutors have been assigned to the investigation, who work under the leadership of the deputy chief prosecutor.”
Six drivers were detained. One injured driver, who was admitted to hospital, will be taken into custody after receiving medical treatment.
