Chagall and me! in Nice

In 2023, the Marc Chagall National Museum, founded in Nice (Alpes-Maritimes) during the artist’s lifetime, celebrates its fiftieth anniversary. The occasion of a year of artistic celebrations in three stages to illustrate the painter’s messages and ideals. Until April 30, 2023.

In 2023, the Marc Chagall National Museum celebrates its 50th anniversary. First named “Musée national Message Biblique Marc Chagall”, the museum took the final name in 2008 to reaffirm its mission of promoting all of the work of this immense artist of the 20th century.

However, the dream of sharing and peace desired by the painter continues to be embodied within these walls. In this first national museum devoted to a living creator, reigns a unique, intimate and spiritual atmosphere, reflecting the exceptional involvement of Marc Chagall in the construction of this museum which must henceforth be considered as an important work of the artist.

On the occasion of this anniversary, the exhibition looks back on fifty years of artistic effervescence before addressing the question of the messages and ideals transmitted by the artist that each visitor is invited to appropriate.

To illustrate the universality and contemporaneity of the artist’s work, the exhibition offers the subjective points of view of today’s personalities. Coming from different artistic fields, cultures and nationalities, they have agreed to share with the public what Chagall awakens in them.

Thus throughout the year writers, squire, dancers, musician, perfumer, visual artists will share their approach in three in sequence.

For this first phase, carte blanche has been given to four young creators: the visual artist Makiko Furuichi, the writer Stéphane Lambert, the duo of dancers-choreographers Mimoza Koike and Asier Edeso. Their unique proposals each reveal the liveliness and infinite richness of Marc Chagall’s works.
