[소셜밸류=김재용 기자] Chae-pyo Cha’s Gasong Foundation (Chairman Do-jun Yoon, Chairman of Dongwha Pharm) and the Korean Society of Pharmaceutical Sciences (Chairman Lee Mi-ok, Professor at Seoul National University’s College of Pharmacy) selected Jeong Se-young, Professor Emeritus of Kyung Hee University’s College of Pharmacy and Distinguished Professor of Dankook University’s College of Pharmacy, as the recipient of the ‘6th Gwang-yeol Yoon Pharmacy Achievement Award’. It was announced on the 18th that Professor Lee Sang-guk of Seoul National University’s College of Pharmacy was selected as the winner of the 17th Yoon Kwang-yeol Pharmacy Award.

The ‘Kwang-Yeol Yoon Pharmacy Achievement Award’ is an award given to a member of the Korean Pharmaceutical Society who has devoted himself to promoting public health for more than 10 years and has made significant contributions to the development of domestic pharmacy.

Professor Se-young Jeong, who was selected as the recipient of the 6th Yoon Kwang-yeol Pharmacy Achievement Award, served as the 47th President of the Korean Pharmaceutical Society and contributed to the success of hosting the 2017 International Federation of Pharmacists (FIP) Seoul General Assembly. In addition, his contribution to revitalizing local branches by holding local branch seminars and providing financial support was recognized.

During his tenure as president of the Korea Institute for Pharmaceutical Education and Evaluation, he was the first pharmacy school to conduct educational evaluations at seven pharmacy schools, striving to systematize and improve pharmacy education. Currently, he is serving as the Chairman of the Biohealth Division of the New Industry Regulation Innovation Committee of the Office for Government Policy Coordination and as an advisory member of the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries.

Meanwhile, the ‘Yoon Gwang-yeol Pharmacy Award’ is an award given to a member of the Korean Pharmaceutical Society who has contributed to the academic development of the domestic pharmaceutical industry and has outstanding research achievements for more than 10 years.

Professor Lee Sang-guk, winner of the 17th Yoon Kwang-yeol Pharmaceutical Prize, is evaluated as having achieved outstanding achievements in the field of discovery of effective bioactive substances from natural products and research on pharmacological mechanisms of action over the past 30 years. In particular, we actively conducted research on deriving anti-cancer active substances derived from natural products, exploring new action points for overcoming anticancer drug resistance, and studying the mechanism of action of substances overcoming resistance, and published over 380 SCI-level papers.

In addition, efforts are being made to develop new drugs, including technology transfer of many patents to companies.

The award ceremony will be held at a banquet event on the 22nd during the 2024 Fall International Conference, which will be held for three days from the 21st to the 23rd at The K Hotel Seoul.

Meanwhile, Chae-pyo Cha’s Gasong Foundation was established in April 2008 through the private donations of Dongwha Pharmaceutical Chairman Kwang-yeol Yoon and his wife, Soon-nyeo Kim, with the philosophy that ‘corporate profits should be returned to society.’

In addition to the Yoon Kwang-yeol Pharmacy Award (co-established by the Korean Pharmaceutical Society in 2008) and the Pharmacy Achievement Award (co-established by the Korean Pharmaceutical Society in 2019), the Foundation has also received the Yoon Kwang-yeol Medical Award (co-established by the Korean Medical Society in 2009), the Medical Contribution Award (jointly established by the Korean Medical Society in 2017), and the Yoon Kwang-yeol Award. We have established the Dental Service Award (jointly with the Korean Dental Association in 2012) and are operating an academic research support project. In addition, we have been selecting and providing scholarships to talented college students who have excellent academic records but are experiencing financial difficulties.
