Chadian Foreign Minister Expected in Thiaroye44

Chadian Foreign Minister Abderaman Koulamallah is traveling to Dakar to represent President Mahamat Idriss Deby Itno during the commemoration of the 80th anniversary of the Thiaroye murder.

In a publication on their official Facebook page on Saturday morning, Chadian diplomacy announced that the Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Integration, International Cooperation and Chadians Abroad, Government Spokesman, Abderaman Koulamallah, N’Djamena for Dakar.

The head of Chadian diplomacy will represent the President of the Republic of Chad, Mahamat Idriss Deby Itno, at the commemoration of the 80th anniversary of the assassination of Thiaroye, scheduled for tomorrow, December 1, 2024, in the Senegalese capital.

The Senegalese president indicated that the leaders of Gambia, Adama Barrow, and Guinea-Bissau, Umaro Sissoco Embaló, arrived this Saturday in Dakar to participate in this event. When they arrived at the Léopold Sédar Senghor military airport, they were greeted by the Senegalese President, Bassirou Diomaye Faye.

In an interview with France 2 on November 28, President Bassirou Diomaye Faye revealed that he had received a letter from his French counterpart, Emmanuel Macron, officially recognizing Thiaroye’s murder. He said: “ Naturally, we are not yet at the stage of apologizing, but I must tell you that I received a letter today from President Macron in which he recognizes that it is a murder to sure.. »

The Senegalese president highlighted the importance of this recognition, stressing that it opens the way to cooperation ” honest and perfect » between Dakar and Paris to raise the curtain on this terrible episode in colonial history. He also denied attempts to cover up this incident: ” Obviously, there is something hidden. We have often tried to put a leaden cover on this story.. » However, he expressed hope: ” We believe that, this time, France’s commitment will be complete, that it will be open and cooperative. »

The Thiaroye massacre, in which displaced African soldiers demanded their rights after participating in World War II, is still the subject of tension of memory between Senegal and France.

The commemoration of the 80th anniversary will be held this Sunday, December 1 in Thiaroye, in the suburbs of Dakar. France will be represented by Jean-Noël Barrot, Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, as he confirmed to meWednesday on X.
