MADRID, 22 Ene. (CulturaOcio) –

Chad Stahelski led alongside David Leitch the first installment of John Wick and later went behind the cameras alone in the rest of the saga. The director’s next project will be Highlander, the remake of The Immortalsa film that will star Henry Cavill.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Henry Cavill will star in the film, a new version of Los Inmortales, a 1986 film starring Christopher Lambert, Sean Connery y Clancy Brown. The Immortals introduces a special breed of fighters that they can only die by decapitating each other and that they are forced to fight among themselves until only one is left alive.

Highlander is part of the deal that Stahelski and Lionsgate recently announced. With this agreement, Stahelski will work on two franchises, Highlander and John Wick, which, in addition to new films, will also have television projects. “This agreement expands the great creative relationship we already have with John Wick and extends it to our Highlander franchise,” said Joe Drake, outgoing president of Lionsgate Motion Picture Group, and Adam Fogelson, president of Motion Picture Group.

“From the beginning, Chad has been the defining creative force in the Wick universe. As we continue to think about the future of that universe, we want Chad to guide us,” they noted. “We hope to have his steady hand and creative input not only in the film he is making, but also in other stories that emerge from it. He is a true visionary and we are delighted to have him on our side“they added.

I am pleased to expand my relationship with Lionsgate in this new role overseeing the John Wick universe and its future expansion.“said Stahelski. “John Wick is very close to my heart and being able to continue controlling him will be a marvel for me. I’m very happy to launch too another franchise with Highlander, a world rich in interesting stories to tell”, advancement.

Although hardly any details are known about the film, which will star Henry Cavill after The actor abandons iconic roles such as Superman in the DC Universe or The Witcher on NetflixStahelski already talked about Highlander in 2020 with The Hollywood Reporter. “It’s a tough nut to crack because the Highlander franchise has a very deep mythology. Trying to make it our own, and be somewhat faithful to the original, but do it in a way that makes it our own, is a little complicated,” he explained. “We don’t want to do a remake. We don’t want to do a reinvention. We want to do something that’s fresh, that uses the mythology of what everyone loves about the first movie.“, he explained.
