Beijing, March 6, 2024 (ots/PRNewswire) – Shan Zenghai, a deputy to the 14th National People’s Congress (NPC) and a nationally decorated engineer, has prepared well for this year’s two sessions, the annual gathering of China’s top legislature and top political advisory body.
He brought with him a photo showing the world’s largest all-terrain crane, developed by the Xuzhou Construction Machinery Group, where Shan, a member of the delegation from east China’s Jiangsu Province, is employed as chief engineer.
Shan’s passion for innovation has driven him to even more breakthroughs in the past year: 46 independently developed key components and over 10 breakthrough products.
Shan said his passion was inspired by Chinese President Xi Jinping, who highlighted the role of technological innovation in the country’s high-quality development during the delegation’s deliberations at last year’s two sessions.

As one of the engines of China’s economic growth, Jiangsu has emerged as a pioneer in the country’s modernization efforts. In 2023, Jiangsu’s GDP will reach 12.82 trillion yuan (US$1.78 trillion), up 5.8 percent year-on-year.

During the group discussion, Xi pointed out that important measures need to be planned to further deepen reforms in order to further promote China’s high-level development and modernization.
China is aiming for GDP growth of around 5 percent in 2024. This target was set after China’s economy demonstrated solidity and resilience in 2023 with year-on-year growth of 5.2 percent, according to the government’s work report submitted to the national parliament for consideration on Tuesday.
The report also highlights numerous difficulties and challenges in achieving this year’s goals and states that efforts should be made to maintain political focus, work harder and mobilize the concerted efforts of all sides.
Xi pushed for reform of the science and technology system, as well as the education and talent system, to remove the blockages that hinder the development of new, high-quality productive forces. He also called for supporting the private sector and private companies and reducing the burden on the grassroots in order to promote the innovative strength of the party and society as a whole.
