Last June 16 was a historic milestone for the ICT sector (Information and Communication Technologies), although other movements will soon surpass it. Three companies in the sector (DXC, Alten Spain, Global Rosetta-Getronics) went on strike the same day called by the CGT after deciding their respective staffs. The union of these IT providers on the same day increased the problems faced by common customers.

We qualified the day as a success in all the objectives that we had set for ourselves. Many departments of the three companies had 100% monitoring, in others practically complete and in others more unequal but globally majority. We have evidence of complaints from very important clients regarding the impact of the strike: no one to respond to critical systems, cancellation of increases in production due to monitoring, on-call phones turned off or relevant incidents, although without reaching the blackout of the system. Gatherings or demonstrations of strikers were held in Madrid, Barcelona, Zaragoza and Valladolid to publicize the problem. There was support from the ELA, CSI, Intersindical unions and even in DXC there were statements in favor by the CCOO. They did not support him in any UGT and RSTIC company.

The reason for this strike was the refusal of the management to negotiate ANYTHING as a consequence of the worst inflation in the Spanish state in 30 years. The 15.1% accumulated since 2020 represents a loss equivalent to 55 days of salary, practically two months of payroll.

The path in these three companies will follow the claim to where their staff decide, but it does not escape anyone that sections of the CGT other companies are coordinating to carry out a broader and more powerful journey before the end of the year. We will seek complicity and joint work with the union sections of any union that says NO to bowing its head before the greed of our managers. We workers cannot continue to lose purchasing power, we demand a solution.

Undoubtedly, the IT consultancy sector has witnessed large mobilizations from time to time in some company (HP, Indra, Capgemini, Alten Spain, Global Rosetta, Sadiel, Atos…) but there had not yet been a coordination of companies on strike for a common claim . Yes, a call was made a few months ago with a scope to the 2-hour sector, but we all know the follow-up it had.

In the ICT sector, people often comment on the tremendous power we have with our work and what would happen the day we say ‘Enough’. That day may be near, organize yourself in a union that will not resign and prepare the mobilization of the workers.
