Mexico City. The Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) will electrify 44 percent of the total route of the Maya Train, as it participates in the construction of the infrastructure necessary to mobilize the railways on the 690 kilometers of electrified track that it will have.
This was reported this morning at the press conference of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, where a report was presented on Section 3 —which goes from Calkini, Campeche, to Izamal, Yucatán, passing through 15 municipalities of these two entities.
In a video presented by the general director of the CFE, Manuel Bartlett, it was detailed that of the 1,554 kilometers that the Mayan Train will cover, 690 are electrified tracks (44 percent), which have been the responsibility of the state-owned company to provide energy.
In record time, the workers and technicians of the public company developed an electrical infrastructure equivalent to reinstalling the electrical system of the city of Mérida, it was reported.
This power extension will cover an area larger than the Netherlands, Denmark and Switzerland combined.
The Maya Train electrification project includes 53 major works that include 11 transmission lines and 42 substations that provide the necessary traction force through the catenaries to propel the train along the electrified route.
“More than 556 kilometers of medium voltage lines were built and around 6,000 poles were installed to supply more than 100 technical booths, essential for continuous monitoring of speed, position and changes in the train track,” it said.
In addition, complementary infrastructure was developed to guarantee the electricity supply of 171 associated services, including 34 stations, maintenance bases, offices, among others.
