CFE cancels construction of three power plants before Covid

The Federal electricity commission (CFE) notified the companies registered in the electronic contracting system that it canceled the construction of the Baja California Sur VI, Salamanca and San Luis Potosí plants, due to the crisis and the effects of the pandemic of the Covid-19.

The state power company commented in three letters issued by the contracting area that “there are no necessary conditions to continue with the development of the open contests international of these plants ”, without any responsibility for CFE, so it decided to cancel the contracting procedures.

The cancellation will also allow compliance with the country’s government policy of non-indebtedness, in order to optimize the economic resources, added the state productive company.

According to the design, construction, equipment and installation sheets of the combined cycle power plants held by the Investment Unit of the Ministry of Finance and Public Credit, during their operation they would have contributed to the National Electric System an additional capacity of one thousand 683.85 megawatts (MW):

Baja California Sur VI, 42.26 MW; Salamanca 836.79 MW; and, San Luis Potosí 804.8 MW.

The three plants were designed to be built using the Investment Financed (Pidiregas) through the greenfield model, which is the one carried out on an area where there are no constructions, so that it is not necessary to demolish, remodel, maintain or adapt structures for the development of the new project. The central Baja California Sur VI It was designed to operate in the municipality of La Paz, in the state of Baja California Sur, and would serve to satisfy the demand for electric power in the region.

The Salamanca plant was designed to help meet the demand for electric power future forecast for the western area of ​​the country, maintaining the regional reserve margins at adequate levels that meet the standards defined for the electricity system.

Also, the central San Luis Potosi, which would be located in the municipality of Villa de Reyes, in the state of San Luis Potosí, had the purpose of contributing to satisfy the future electricity demand forecast also for the Western area.
