The Montreal team, often apathetic or overwhelmed, has not achieved a new team record in MLS in addition to playing one of its worst games for a long time.
It was a goal from Ismael Tajouri-Shradi (29th minute) that made the difference in this meeting, which was once again played in a neutral place, the Yankee Stadium not being available. The other match between the two teams was played in Orlando earlier this month.
In a second game of a three-day streak, Wilfried Nancy turned his squad around with five changes, giving a rest to Mason Toye and Djordje Mihailovic, among others.
Without Toye in front, he trusted Bjørn Johnsen and Sunusi Ibrahim, who did not show great complicity.
“In the second half, we had a little more trouble touching the players in the depth. We wanted to see something different while considering our game in a few days.
“In the last ten minutes, we ran out of binder in the game. We had a bit of trouble finding speed and putting him in danger in the last third.”
The team still remains tied with Orlando for fourth in the East with 22 points, but New York has moved closer to 20 points.
For a second consecutive game, the Montreal defense was very flared, leaving plenty of room for opposing attackers. The absences of Kamal Miller and Kiki Struna were really felt.
There was also a lack of communication between James Pantemis and his supporters. Pantemis also had a hard time judging some balls and it’s getting a bit worrying. That’s what led to Ismael Tajouri-Shradi’s goal in the 29th minute. Back to the ball cleared by Luis Barraza, Zorhan Bassong misjudged the ball which also jumped away from him while Pantemis was not communicating with his defender.
“We were not clear on the goal and on the long duel where James advances and stops. I felt that too, ”Nancy agreed.
Center-back Kiki Struna has completed his quarantine and has resumed training at Center Nutrilait. He did not accompany the team to New Jersey.
