CF Montreal continued their happy streak without a setback on Wednesday night, winning by a score of 2-1 over New York City FC at Orlando City Stadium.
The Montreal team had not scored twice in the same clash since May 12, and Romell Quioto broke this streak with panache, thanks to a beautiful goal in the 72nd minute. He danced back to back around a defender and goalkeeper Luis Barraza before dropping the ball into an abandoned cage. The native of Honduras had not capitalized in his last eight games.
Possession went in favor of the New York side from the start of the game, but Club de Foot recovered after Keaton Parks of New York found the back of the net from the penalty spot with a superb pass from Ismael Tajouri-Shradi.
Increased pressure then allowed a foray by Djordje Mihailovic, which caused a foul by Sebastien Ibeagha. The latter prevented the Montreal striker from shooting by tripping him. Mason Toye, Montreal’s top scorer, who was appointed to take the penalty, was not going to miss such an opportunity. He faked the shot to the right, just before releasing the other side to level the score for his fourth goal of the campaign just minutes before halftime.
Quito started the game with a bang, rocking the strings from the first minute, but an offside was called and the goal was disallowed.
The eleven from Montreal should in principle reconnect with his supporters, at Stade Saputo, from the next clash, which will take place on July 17 against FC Cincinnati.
