The two sides agreed to the terms of a two-season contract on Wednesday with an option for the third year. The pact will be formalized when CF Montreal receives Johnsen’s international transfer certificate and medical examination.
We are happy with the acquisition of this player with a wealth of experience in Europe and Asia. Bjorn is a large, fairly mobile forward. He has demonstrated his ability to score goals in all the clubs he has played in in the past, notably with the Norwegian national team.
, said CF Montreal sports director Olivier Renard in a press release.
The Montreal club also announced that it has loaned two players in the Canadian Premier League for the 2021 season, with recall rights. Defenseman Karifa Yao will join Cavalry FC in Calgary and fullback Keesean Ferdinand will wear Atlético in Ottawa.
The idea behind these loans is to allow them to gain experience by obtaining playing minutes.
, Renard said.
These are two young players from our academy in whom we have complete confidence for the future. We hope they can grow up and come back even stronger at CF Montreal. The case of James Pantemis last year was a good example.
Yao signed his first professional contract in June 2019 and played his first minutes in Major League Soccer in September 2020, as a substitute against the Philadelphia Union. For his part, Ferdinand signed a pact with CF Montreal in June 2020 and has not yet experienced his baptism in the Garber circuit.
